Waiting For The Train

There is a strange
wonderful stillness in the air
The quiet before the storm
maybe
or the stillness
charged with excitement
before the lights are turned on
and everyone shouts “surprise!”
I feel life is draining out of you mama
slowly drop by drop
You are transforming, dissolving
melting, softening
while I watch helplessly.
The wait has begun.
Hand in hand we sit together,
two orphaned souls
perched on a bench waiting
for the invisible train
to take you on that journey
you so long for.
And though it pains me
I must watch you go
I won’t make a scene
I won’t grab your dress
I won’t try to follow you
I’ll wave my hand
smile at you
and wish you
peace, quiet and bliss
forever

Waiting
